Evaluation - Section E
The System:
What I have managed to successfully install is a fully customised system matched to my clients needs. To system has been composed from various parts produced by various manufactures. The way the system has been designed and built is that it can match the current needs and able to match those of future needs as well (i.e. Windows Vista and Office 2007). This means that the system will be able to “embrace” future developments as apposed to be scraped and replaced.
The system now runs Windows XP (inc. SP2), Core 2 Duo 1.86Ghz processor, 1Gb RAM and a 120Gb hard drive. All of these components will more than satisfy my client’s computer demands and any future ones of his. Working will such parts will mean that the clients would notice a vast increase in performance compared to his previous system.
Personal:
As whole I managed to successfully install the system to my client’s time line. The part that took longest was however capturing pictures of both the hardware and software, fortunately though this didn’t hold me up too much.
When installing the hardware there were no major errors although there was a slight problem with me installing the front LED’s the wrong way round. This problem was very easy for me to solve as it just meant switching a few wires around. Installing the software was also very successful with no major errors along the way, Having such a powerful system in place allowed the software to install very quickly thus time saving.
Whilst installing the system I reminded my client of such safety hazards like having un-tidy wiring. He took all of my ideas and suggestions into place.
User Feedback:
A few people kindly took time to give me user feedback
“Dear Nathan,
I would firstly like to thank you ever so much for installing a whole new computer system for me.
I felt very safe that you knew the appropriate knowledge to carry out all of the tasks to an excellent standard. You managed to explain exactly what you were planning to do and how you were going to do to me in clear and well presented documentation. Also, I found it very good of you to document how you actually carried out the procedures as well as now I can make reference to it. Another thing that I am please about the project with is the time. You would carry out as many tasks as you could whenever you came to visit me thus maximising your time to ensure that I had this whole new setup completed as quickly as possible.
Again, I would just like to thank-you for all the hard work you have put into this project,
Many Thanks,
James Payne”
I thank James Payne (the client) for taking time to give me user feedback. I am very pleased with his comments and I hope that he enjoys his new setup. Although I completed the project on time if I were to do it again I would like to see if it could be done any quicker.
“Dear Nathan,
From what I have seen you have showed in all of you documents exactly how you plan to do things and how you did them. You have managed to use images and text well in all of the documents so each image in clear and is relevant the text above it.
All in all I feel that you have presented your work very well and it is very clear to understand what you have written.
Well done.
Regards,
Adel Al-Shehab”
I thank Adel Al-Shehab for taking time to give me user feedback. I am glad that Adel could understand my work and see exactly what I have written. Perhaps next time I could try and offer a more interactive experience with my documentation such as the use of videos.
System Improvements:
Upgrade HDD: The current hard drive is 120Gb which is enough for the time being. However, I feel that as the clients needs increases he might be a little stuck for space. A large upgrade to something in the region of 300Gb would defiantly make sure that it would be some time before the client would run out of space.
Network printer: At present the printer is connect to the PC’s USB. However, as there is a router in place and the printer has a built in Ethernet card then it would be wise to make use of it and enable network printing.
Keyboard and Mouse: The keyboard and mouse both now are using wires. This can be a little annoying for the client as a lot of wiring can get in his wires. An improvement to this would be purchasing and installing a wireless keyboard and mouse to keep the wiring to a minimum.
